With the help of the almighty facebook I have set up three movie gatherings. This is the story of the second meeting. Another failure. First gathering here. Maybe we can go over them to see where and what went wrong and what can be done about it. So, retrospection numero due:
The Date: 20.III.2010
The Location: Castelul Regelui
The Time: 16:45
* Time adjusted since the first gathering, to not have people falling asleep too soon into the gathering. lol.
The Title: Master filmmakers
The Invitation:
Many of you are not familiar with actor names, directors, award winning movies and some new information couldn't do you any harm. There are movies that made history, movies that brought the cinema to a new level, controversial movies, bla bla, pretty lame introduction.
So, after the Woody Allen night felt short, the next movie gathering will be much earlier. There will be different type of movies that might have only one thing i...n common: they all can be described as Marvelous, Fabulous, Art, Memorable or Overrated.
Three movies for Saturday 20th:
The Big Lebowski (1998): Maybe the funniest comedy of the Coen brothers with Jeff Bridges, John Goodman and Steve Buscemi.
Once Upon a Time in the West (1968): After the trilogy of the man with no name, Sergio Leone comes with this western starring Henry Fonda and Claudia Cardinale.
Dead Man Walking (1995): Tim Robbins does a very very good job directing this movie. Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon are great, as they always are in every movie they starred.
You should check these guys out on imdb. Great directors and great actors.
Parcă văd că nu interesează pe nimeni da ar fi fain să veniţi măcar câţiva. Filme extraordinare.
* After the first meeting I realised I am dealing with ammateurs. Therefore I tried something different, with no choices from their part. Initially the list had Volver, but somebody saw the movie and Pedro Almodovar's film was replaced by Dead Man Walking.
The Guests: Dan, Sile, Max, Trifa, Liuda, Roxi, Tania
The Outcome: We decided to start with The Big Lebowski. I really like this movie. One of the best comedies ever made. It took us more than 4 hours to watch this 2 hours movie, with one of the guests, Trifa, not event catching the ending. Besides him leaving, Pizza was delivered in the middle of the movie and delayed the viewing. After the first movie it was already late. We tried to watch Dead Man Walking (nobody wanted to see the western) but nobody was in the mood (the same people that didn't want the western) and we stopped it after twenty minutes. So at gathering number two we still weren't able to watch more than a movie and half. I think we barely passed midnight, again, but the third time was better. To be continued...
