Movie night stories (III)

With the help of the almighty facebook I have set up three movie gatherings. This is the story of the last meeting. The single reasonable gathering. First gathering here, second gathering here. Final retrospection, before getting ready for reigniting the movie nights after the summer break.

The Date: 03.IV.2010

The Location: Castelul Regelui

The Time: 16:05
  * Time adjusted since the second gathering was better than the first. This way people didn't fall asleep too soon into the gathering. lol.

The Title: Outstanding Cinema

The Invitation:
The third of its kind, this gathering is bound to be the greatest.

This time I have three more than ever carefully selected movies to keep the audience together for at least two of them. Westerns and dramas are out of the question, the audience is not (at least not yet) up for that.

So we'll have comedy at its finest, then proceed with films with a hint of comedy, and hopefully we'll be able to drop off comedy at one point but t...hat is not a must.

Three for Saturday, April 4th, double option for no. 3:

Plan 9 from Outer Space: A science fiction movie, made in 1959 by director Edward D. Wood Jr, that remained in the history as the worst movie ever made. Bela Lugosi died during the shooting of this film. Bela Lugosi is the actor who played Dracula in the first Dracula movie, back in 1931.

Ed Wood: A movie by Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Big Fish, Sweeney Todd) with Johnny Deep about maybe the worst movie maker of all time, Edward D. Wood Jr. It takes something special to be considered the worst director of all time. We'll have a clue about that after seeing Plan 9 from Outer Space I assume.

After these movies we can go two ways:
1. The Party: A classic comedy from 1968 with Peter Sellers (Inspector Clouseau in the original Pink Panther movies) as Hrundi V. Bakshi, who gets invited to a party instead of getting fired after causing chaos on the movie set. And the chaos continues like in a good Caragiale play I might say. So they say.
2. A Fish Called Wanda: John Cleese (the tall guy from Monty Python) got a nomination for this script in 1988. This should be enough as reference. The director got also a nominee, it seams to me like a fun movie. We'll see!

Seen or not seen, the movies are worth rewatching.

I await you. The king awaits you. The kingdom awaits you. Bla bla bla.

* Since the guests never cast their vote, I again chose the movies. And I have to correct myself, Bela Lugosi actually died before Plan 9. Ed Wood had some footage of him which he used  for a small part and the rest of the character was played by a man that covers his face the entire movie. It is really something you wouldn't believe is possible. Like an alien invasion for that matter.

The Guests: Dan, Sile, Marce, Max, Trifa, Liuda.

The Outcome: We watched The Party first, since the usually late guest announced his lateness. We all had to be there to watch the worst movie of all time. Incredible movie. Then we watched Ed Wood, and we saw how that all happened. With long pauses between movies we managed to not interrupt any of the films. It all went well and we even passed midnight. So these was all three gathering. It is now time to setup another one. Soon... I am open to ideas, but not wide open.
